A groundbreaking factory for modular housing – from scratch.

In Heerenveen, Heijmans launched an ambitious project: a fully modular construction facility using 2D and 3D building elements. But with this innovation came logistical complexity. How do you move 5-ton modules safely, precisely, and fast – without compromising sustainability or operator wellbeing?

To meet the demand for affordable homes and climate-neutral construction, the process had to be scalable, ergonomic and future-proof. That was the start of our collaboration.

Our approach

Air casters for friction-free flow and future growth.

Heijmans partnered with Aerofilm Systems to introduce an internal transport solution tailored to modular production. Together, we developed custom air caster pallets – designed for effortless movement of the 3D modules within the production line.

Six air casters per pallet: allowing smooth, accurate movement – fully loaded or empty
Zero learning curve: intuitive operation for any worker
