Cable production
The production and construction of high-voltage power cables and optical cables will grow enormously in the coming years. Demand is greater than supply, making the industry extremely competitive. Various parties are involved in the chain, all working towards the same deadline. Producers of cables, the executing party that lays the cable (with or without its own ships) and all the other different suppliers. Time is money, which makes planning a challenge.
Air casters are characterized by their great capacity to safely move large weights, with relatively low investment. They are very quickly operational, require little space to install and take up little space to store. The use of Air casters also excludes the emission of harmful gases in your production environment.
Moving cable reels
In cable production, reels are often moved with product. When moving reels, where the diameters can rise to more than 4.000 mm, it can become challenging to navigate doorways or other narrow spaces. With Air casters you are assured of the lowest possible construction height. You can move omnidirectionally, making tricky routes a lot easier. Various options are also possible, such as a level control system and an integrated air hose reel.
Cable storage
After installation, a length of spare cable is often stored in a dock or port. When damaging the cable or in the event of a cable defect, the product is available quickly. Air casters offer a cheaper alternative to the often expensive SPMTs (self-propelled modular transporter). You can store several baskets with one set, so that you can react quickly in the event of a cable break and no valuable time is lost. After the movement, you can take your Air caster set out again, making them available for other movements.
Basket transport
You can also opt for a transport solution with Air casters for transporting cable baskets where a core or other partial products may be stored. These can be built onto a transporter or moved onto individual Air caster modules using a forklift truck with sufficient power as a drive. Weights of 700.000 kg are no problem at all.
Cable production
In the production of subsea cables, we almost always work with cable carousels or turntables. This platform rotates to wind or unwind a cable on or off the platform. Because the carousel rotates, the cable is prevented from twisting. Depending on the turning frequency, you can choose Air casters or Aqua casters. Several of our cable carousels have been operational for years and are scalable to weights of no less than 10.000.000 kg. This, as well as very low maintenance costs and a stable solution, has contributed to our competitive position.
