The movement on air casters can be compared to the movement on ice. It requires quite some force to overcome the initial inertia to start moving heavy objects. Once in motion, controlling and stopping them also requires a lot of power. The rule of thumb with air caster transportation is that above 9,000lbs, we recommend having a few people available to control the load safely, or you can make use of internal air powered drives. The internal air powered drives can be built into a system as an option.
They consist of an air motor with a connected drive wheel that is pushed against the floor by means of a lift cushion to create enough friction. In this way, you can control the air caster system in a safe and controlled way. The movement of these drives can be initiated by a remote-control unit, camera system or other means of automatic guiding.
